Heat Pump Installation & Replacement

Heat and cool your home efficiently with a heat pump.

When you need a cost-effective, efficient HVAC system that offers both heating and cooling in one package, consider a heat pump. They are a great choice for the Annapolis area, especially for homes that do not have access to natural gas service. No matter the brand or model heat pump you want or have, we can install, repair, and maintain it!

We provide heat pump installations, replacements, repairs and maintenance services throughout the Annapolis area.

When your heat pump stops working in the Winter or constantly runs in the Summer, it can lead to a handful of issues—from a cold home to a high power bill. And nobody wants that!

If your heat pump is older, or no longer working as efficiently as it once was, it might be time to consider having it replaced. We’ll advise you whether it’s worth having repaired, or if replacing is the best option. Depending on the age of your system, and the cost of repair, a replacement might be the smartest way to move forward. We offer a variety of heat pump systems from our trusted brands.

We service the Annapolis area, offering free installation estimates and financing options. With 30+ years of commercial and residential HVAC experience, you can count on Annapolis’ Top Rated Local HVAC contractor, for installations that are professional, energy-efficient, and reliable.

Your heating and cooling system is the largest energy user in your home.

What is a Heat Pump and How Does it Work?

Heat pumps are quite similar to an air conditioner, though they have the added benefit of offering both heating and cooling. In the Summer, they provide cooling and humidity control just like a standard central air unit. A refrigerant absorbs the heat from inside your home, and then it’s transferred to the outdoors to be released at the condenser.

In the Winter, the opposite happens. Heat is drawn from the outside air and brought inside to keep your home warm and cozy. Heat pumps offer great performance in both heating and cooling modes. They are extremely efficient because they do not generate heat, like an electric coil-type heater. Instead, they move the heat from place to place. Heat pumps have several advantages for homeowners, including:

  • Heating and cooling in one systemThis makes for a cost-effective HVAC solution, condensing service, and maintenance.
  • High energy efficiencyIn cooling mode, heat pumps offer a rating of 14 to over 20 SEER, similar to an air conditioner. In heating mode, they feature an HSPF of 8 to 10, and they use significantly less electricity than a resistance-based electrical heater for the same output.
  • No gas connection required Heat pumps only use electricity, so there's no need to have a natural gas connection available or store propane at your home.
  • Effective performanceHeat pumps feature great performance in both hot and cold weather, and they offer backup electric heat for extremely cold temperatures. They provide excellent comfort, air quality, and humidity control.

What Size Heat Pump Do I Need?

The size of the heat pump you need depends on various factors in your home, such as the number of rooms, windows, insulation, surrounding shade, etc.

Without the proper sizing, a heat pump could be too small or too big for your home. If the system is too small, it overexerts itself to meet your energy needs and will not properly heat or cool your space. Not only will the unit constantly run, but it will also run up your electric bill. On the other hand, an oversized heat pump will reach the goal temperature too quickly, thereby causing it to cycle off and on and wear down quicker.

At Pro-Tech HVAC Home, we perform a Manual J Load Calculation to determine which heat pump size is correct for your home.
